Mumbai braces for heavy showers; local trains running late

The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Mumbai and neighbouring districts, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 48 hours. Local train services were running behind schedule on the Central and Harbour lines.

BMC has activated its monsoon control room and asked citizens to avoid non-essential travel.
