The winter session of Parliament began on Monday with heated exchanges between the treasury and opposition benches. The opposition demanded the formation of a joint parliamentary committee to look into recent policy matters, while the government pushed to introduce ten new bills this week.
Speaker of the Lok Sabha appealed for calm and urged members to allow the House to conduct its business. The Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 2 PM after similar disruptions.
Political analysts said the session is likely to be one of the most contentious in recent years, with several key legislations pending. The government has listed bills related to data protection, criminal law amendments, and financial regulations.
"We are committed to a constructive session," said the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, adding that the government is open to discussion on all issues raised by the opposition.
